
Unsolved Case 7: Whispers of Elderwick (Bonus Chapter) – After the false alarm involving Albert Crow, things only get more complicated: Mr. Graham is found dead, and the suspicious letters take on a far more sinister meaning. What previously seemed like strange threats turns out to be part of a well-thought-out scheme, and Mavis Donahue, along with Detective Marcus Partridge, must once again dive into the investigation. The trail leads the heroes to the mailman Arthur Pennington, whose behavior raises more and more questions. It turns out that he was indeed hiding some of the letters and even damaging the envelopes, but not out of malice, but because of his obsession with collecting stamps. Despite the suspicions, Arthur turns out not to be the killer, but a man who foolishly got caught up in a dangerous situation. Moreover, he helps Mavis and Marcus get to the postal archives, where important clues are hidden, allowing them to view the situation from a new angle. Gradually, the picture becomes clearer: the letters are not connected to a real company at all, but are forgeries created to intimidate the villagers. Someone has been methodically sending out threats, forcing people to sell their homes at below-market prices. By cross-referencing records, letters, and testimonies, the protagonists track down John O’Brien, a city businessman behind the entire scheme. However, the case has long since gone beyond ordinary fraud, behind the scheme lurks a killer ready to eliminate anyone who stands in his way. Mimi becomes the next target. After Mr. Graham’s death, Mimi is on the verge of despair, and Mavis has to proceed cautiously so as not to frighten her even more. Despite her fear, she agrees to help, and the heroes decide on a risky move: to set a trap for the criminal. The plan requires precision and courage, Mimi becomes the bait, while hiding places and escape routes are prepared in advance. A mistake could cost them their lives, but there is no other way out.
